Working with an established brand
Working with an established brand such as Clemson University has taught me how to be creative within the rules and regulations of a large organization. If any material designed is off-brand, the university will not approve the production of that piece.
Creating brand recognition
When creating posters for recurring events, it is important to create similar-looking work to establish brand recognition for any potential users. This particular design has been an effective means to advertise for this lecture series for the College of Science.
Understanding print limitations
Printing materials can be costly, especially in mass quantities with excellent quality. The less color used in an piece, the less money the project will cost. Using the official Clemson purple color, "Regalia", I was able to create a variety of contrast and color without the entire image drowning in purple. Having limitations in design pushes the designer to be more creative with what they have been given!
Developing for social media
A lot of the print pieces that have been created in the past two years must also be transformed into social media posts. The primary forms of social media used Instagram posts, Facebook event banners, and the university-wide external display monitors. This means that each print piece is potentially transformed up to seven times, so the original designs must be accommodating to fit a variety of dimensions.
Logo Design
I have created a handful of logos for the Clemson University College of Science. Each logo is considered a "tier three" logo for the university, which means there are certain requirements. In this case, each logo must have the word "Clemson" or the official tiger paw logo as a part of the design in order to pass inspection.
Capturing moments
There have been a variety of events throughout the past two years that have provided for wonderful photographic opportunities to share with the College of Science family. People enjoy seeing what has been happening recently in the College of Science, and photography is a great way to accomplish that!
