Developing a concept
The first step in creating the app was wire framing, or roughly sketching out the layout of each page. Here, no color or real elements of design were used except layout. This prevents personal preferences from getting in the way of the functionality of the app. This step was extremely helpful in determining the pieces necessary to create the final version of the app.
Creating a brand
It is important to have brand consistency when creating an identity. The two fonts to the right were the only ones used throughout the app, and the first two colors present in the color palette were main colors of the design. Variations of all five of these colors can be seen in the app.
Choosing powerful imagery
Another important concept when developing is choosing imagery that targets the vision of the app. I wanted this app to evoke emotion about recording and producing music. It was crucial that the imagery was dramatic and eye-catching.
Logo
I wanted a logo that was simple, yet gave subtle hints at music. The rings around the yellow circle are symbolic of a record player and the fact that the rings are all different show the complexity of music. The yellow was a fun color to have in small doses throughout the app, and the font is used sparingly to create emphasis on the actual logo.
Final Designs
The final designs came together as a cohesive look. The far left is the "navigation" page. The right image is the "home page" of the app. Below are the sign-in, sharing, and profile pages. The last row consists of the albums, individual albums, and finished music pages.
